NANNY MARKET RELATED SALARIES

There are many factors to take into consideration when assessing what a nanny should be paid. For example, their qualifications and experience, whether the nanny lives in your home with you or comes to your home daily, whether the nanny is part time or full time, the number of hours worked per week and how much responsibility the nanny is required to take on.

These are MARKET RELATED nanny salaries in terms of what the majority of families pay / SHOULD pay their nannies in South Africa. Yes, there are exceptions to the below. Some families pay more, but then they generally expect more in terms of qualifications, experience, age, job functions, hours worked, flexibility etc.

*Please note the above is dependent on the LEVEL of the candidate you would require (see below) which is also dependent on affordability in terms of the salary you are able to pay.

The salary guide below is for a standard 45-hour week. According to the Basic Conditions of Employment Act, an employee cannot be forced to work overtime. Any hours worked over and above the standard 45-hour week (9 hour day), is classified as overtime.

FULL-TIME LIVE-IN POSITIONS

For live in positions, accommodation and food has to be provided for or the nanny must be given an allowance of R500 if given breakfast and lunch and R900 if she is required to buy her own food.


LIVE-IN NANNY DOMESTIC

A nanny domestic primary role is responsibility for your children will complete household tasks when the children are at school or nursery, or around their schedule, giving you full support with all aspects of your life and home.

Entry Level (Age 20 – 25) Salary R4500

• Has 1-year experience
• Is able to work with children aged 2 – 6 years’ old
• Generally, does not have experience with babies
• General housekeeping experience


Mid-Level (Age 28 – 34) Salary R5000 – R5500

• Has about 2 - 3 years’ experience
• Is able to work with children aged 0 to 13 years’ old
• Is able to tend to the overall emotional well-being of the children
• Has experience with babies, toddlers, children and teens
• General housekeeping experience


Senior Level (Age 35 – 55) Salary R6000

• Has about 5+ years’ experience
• Is able to work with children aged 0 to 18 years’ old
• Is able to tend to the overall emotional well-being of the children
• Has experience with babies, toddlers, children and teens
• Housekeeping experience


LIVE-IN NANNY

A live-in nanny's primary role is care of the children, and therefore household cleaning is not normally included but should be specifically discussed if it is required.

Junior Level (Age 25 – 34) Salary R5500 – R6000

• Has 2-years experience
• Is able to work with children aged 1 – 6 years’ old
• Minimal stimulation activities
• Light Child related housekeeping duties

Senior Level (Age 35 – 55) Salary R6500

• Has about 5+ years’ experience
• Is able to work with children aged 0 to 18 years’ old
• Is able to tend to the overall emotional well-being of the children
• Has experience with babies, toddlers, children and teens
• Housekeeping experience


LIVE-IN EXECUTIVE NANNY WITH A DRIVERS LICENSE

Salary: R7000+ per month depending on experience and other qualifications.

• These career-professional nannies are highly trained
• 5 years +experience.
• Driving children to school and extra mural activities (only child related duties)
• An Executive nanny is responsible for providing Childcare responsibilities with light housekeeping. Examples of light housekeeping everything child related.
• Executive nannies are not responsible for heavy housework or the overall care of the home.


LIVE-IN HOUSE MANAGER WITH A DRIVERS LICENSE

Salary: R8500+ per month depending on experience and other qualifications.

• House managers prefer live in positions
• Think Mary Poppins meets Jill-of-All-Trades.
• Arguably one of our most popular roles, house managers are essential for busy families.
• Housekeeping, Childcare and running errands for families.

FULL-TIME LIVE-OUT POSITIONS

The salaries below include transport costs. Food provided is dependent on the family.

NANNY DRIVER (with own car)

Salary: R9500+ per month depending on experience and other qualifications. AA rates, if car is used for anything work related.

• Nanny Driver is responsible for providing up to 45 hours of childcare each week.
• Nanny Drivers are not responsible for heavy housework or the overall care of the home.
• Homework assistance
• A Nanny Driver should not be mistaken for a full time nanny or a housekeeper. A Nanny Driver is not in charge of the household.

NANNY TEACHER

Salary: R8000+ per month depending on experience and qualifications (Early Childhood Development only (ages 0 – 6 years old)

• Nanny Teachers have left the large classroom environment and entered into an arrangement with one family, working with the same children consistently as they grow.
• They are certified teachers, looking for the opportunity to focus on one family at a time. (no domestic duties)

NCS (NEW BORN CARE SPECIALIST)

Night Salary: R400 per Night for a single baby / R800 per Night for twins and triplets (work on a Sunday or public holiday is double the daily rate)
Day Salary: R7000+ per month depending on experience and qualifications

• Newborn Care Specialists (NCS) are highly experienced individuals who have chosen to specialize in newborn and infant care.
• Many have undergone specialized training and have advanced knowledge in a wide variety of subject areas including lactation support and sleep training.

PART-TIME POSTIONS

PART TIME NANNY DAILY RATE

Salary: R350 – R400 per day (work on a Sunday or public holiday is double the daily rate)

• Part time nannies work a few days a week with sole responsibility for your children will complete household tasks when the children are at school or nursery, or around their schedule, giving you full support with all aspects of your life and home.
